Job Description

Changing the world one child at a time: A career like no other

We’re the London Early Years Foundation, also known as LEYF; a family of 40 nurseries in London. As a charitable social enterprise, we’re leading change in Early Years, ensuring equal education and care for all children to give them the best start in life. 27% of our children are on funded-only places, with 75% of our nurseries in some of the most deprived areas of London, meaning you have the chance to make the biggest impact by working with us. 100% of our nurseries are Ofsted-rated Outstanding or Good, an achievement that’s down to the brilliance of our wonderful teachers.

If you’re currently or have previously been a Room Manager, sometimes known as Room Leader, we have the chance for you to join our Marsham Street nursery, close to Pimlico station on the Victoria line with lots of local bus routes too. This nursery is attached to our London Institute of Early Years which means our truly amazing training offer is quite literally on your doorstop. The nursery is set on three levels, with a floor for each age group with outdoor garden space too.

Why choose LEYF?

We’ve been around for a long time, 121 years to be precise, but we’re always evolving, and you could evolve with us.

The best education is delivered by an amazing team of teachers, and so we provide top training and development in-house through our London Institute of Early Years to deepen your knowledge and practice. Our Room Manager leadership training is top-class and available to you when you join.

We also provide a range of benefits to support you while employed with us:

A starting salary of £31,335 for full time, 40 hours per week over 5 days, Monday to Friday. There may be a possibility to work your hours over 4 long days.
Generous pension to prepare for your future – We contribute 7% while you only contribute 1%!
70% discount on childcare fees for your little one at a LEYF nursery
Up to 35 days annual leave per year, including 8 bank holidays, 3 days off between Christmas and New Year, and your birthday off
Sector-leading parental leave
Free Wellbeing app
Shopping discounts
Team celebrations in your nursery
Annual company conference – a fun and informative whole company event
What we look for in our Room Managers

Each nursery shares LEYF’s unique teaching model but you will have the freedom to be creative to suit how the children learn best. You’ll be planning and creating engaging activities, building parent relationships and maintaining best practice amongst your team. You’ll ensure observations are thorough and to our high standard, with quality Early Years Education as your top priority.

Our values underpin our work. The LEYF 4 core values are INSPIRING, BRAVE, NURTURING and FUN and we can’t wait to see how you grow and evolve your LEYF classroom with our values guiding your actions.

You’ll hold a Level 3 or above childcare qualification that is full and relevant for the Early Years sector to count in legal EY ratios, as well as have some previous experience as a Room Leader or Room Manager in another Early Years nursery setting. You’ll also need to hold the right to work in the UK to join us.

As part of the recruitment process, we’ll be looking for evidence of your ability to protect and safeguard children in your care and for you to showcase your knowledgeable, passionate and imaginative approach to providing high quality Early Years education and classroom management skills.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to receive your application! Once applied, you can expect one of our friendly Recruiters to give you a call for a quick chat and to book in an interview. Our recruitment process is fast so you can expect to hear from us within 1-2 days of applying. You can reach us on [email protected] if you have any questions about being a Room Manager at LEYF.
