About the role
The Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial invites applications from outstanding individuals to join our academic staff at any level of their career.

Due to the strategic importance of the chemical engineering discipline at Imperial and beyond to address global challenges, our Department is growing and wishes to appoint an academic at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Reader or Professorial level. We are open to multiple research areas in chemical engineering and related fields. We prioritise research innovation and promise of the candidate’s work. We encourage candidates interested in biotechnology, energy, materials, artificial intelligence & digitalisation, environmental engineering, and reaction engineering. We will consider synergies with existing research in the Department as well as with current and upcoming research clusters and initiatives at Imperial e.g.:

We have expertise in mathematical analysis and modelling as well as in experimental investigation and measurement. Our research is centred on nine research themes that span the whole Chemical Engineering discipline. Much of our research is collaborative and cross-disciplinary within and across departments, faculties, as well as with other Universities, and Industrial partners both in the United Kingdom and worldwide. We welcome professional engagement in consultancies and actively support translational activities.

 

What you would be doing
To teach and examine courses at all levels – undergraduate, masters and higher research degrees – through lectures, seminars, tutorials, course work and personal supervision.
To plan and review own approach to teaching.
To act as a coach and role model through excellent practice and mentoring of colleagues.
To supervise PhD candidates.
To provide pastoral support for students.
To contribute to curriculum development.
To take a leading role in, or contribute to, the development of teaching and teaching methods and assessment.
To contribute to the enhancement of quality teaching within the field.
To act as an external examiner for postgraduate students.
To work with national bodies on curriculum development and quality assurance.
To direct, lead, or contribute to, a research area at the highest scientifically rigorous levels.
To obtain funds and research grants.
To manage research projects.
To supervise, train and mentor research staff and students at the highest scientifically rigorous levels.
To publish high quality research in peer reviewed journals.
To play a role in the national and international research community and learned societies.
To promote engagement and collaboration with external partners through training and research activities.

You will have a PhD in Chemical Engineering, or closely related field or equivalent level of professional qualifications. You will also have an outstanding research record, as demonstrated by your publications (appropriate for your career stage). We prioritise research innovation and promise of the candidate’s work. We encourage applications from candidates interested in biotechnology, energy, materials, artificial intelligence & digitalisation, environmental engineering, and reaction engineering.

Lecturer – The appointee will be able to demonstrate their ability to produce independent research and will have developed the skills to take a more active role in teaching and supervision.

Senior Lecturer – The appointee will have extensive professional experience and will be able to demonstrate a reputation in their field based on their achievements in either teaching or research. The appointee will be expected to demonstrate their independence through their body of original research work.

Reader – The appointee will have started developing an international reputation based on a track record of research shown to influence their area of research, and be able to consistently demonstrate the ability to attract research income.

Professor – The appointee will be able to demonstrate a sustained international reputation based on an extensive track record of research with a major influence on their field of research and a significant impact shown, for example through consistent influence on research income.
