About the role
Imperial College London, seeks a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Reader in Materials for Quantum Technologies to join the Department of Materials within the Faculty of Engineering.
We are Imperial – a world-leading university for science, technology, engineering, medicine and business (STEMB), where scientific imagination leads to world-changing impact.
You will be expected to plan, direct and undertake the implementation of research activities and programmes of outstanding quality, international repute and innovation in the area of Materials for Quantum Technologies. We welcome applications in any areas of quantum science and engineering, spanning fundamental research through to technological development, including the synthesis, fabrication, and characterisation of materials through to the measurement of quantum properties and device development. The ideal candidate will contribute to the Department’s vision to develop quantum technologies capable of operating at room temperature, and under ambient conditions.
What you would be doing
The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record of research in the relevant discipline. They will be expected to generate income from external sources to support their own research programme and to develop collaborative programmes with other academics within the Department, across other research centres and institutes across the College and other departments within the College. They will be expected to advance the reputation of the Department and the College by disseminating their research through publications in international peer-reviewed journals and presentations to relevant audiences including at international conferences.
You will be capable of contributing to the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes and expected to teach and assess across a wide spectrum of its lecture courses. They will be required to prepare and deliver lectures and other classes to groups of typically 20 to 150 students in any one of the four years of the undergraduate course or the MSc courses. In addition, because the Department’s teaching places great emphasis on project-based work, the appointee will be involved in the supervision and assessment of laboratory classes, group exercises and research projects. All lecturers in the Department are required to attend training courses in teaching methods and course design.
You will be expected to move to a position of some responsibility rapidly in the process of career development so that they coordinate one aspect of the Department’s many activities in teaching and research.
