We are looking for Cleansing Operatives to join our Whitby Team

With in the role of Cleansing Operative, you will be part of a supportive team responsible for undertaking a wide variety of cleansing functions such as litter picking, emptying of street bins, graffiti removal and cleaning of public conveniences to assist in the cleansing of public and open spaces. Working in small crews in your dedicated area of the county. Health and safety are critical to ensure your team and residents are safe, including supporting your driver to help them navigate the streets of North Yorkshire safely. As required you need to be prepared to start early and weekend working may also be required.

This operation is pivotal to the area by ensuring pavements, public footpaths and pedestrianised areas are effectively and adequately cleansed on a regular basis which promotes cleanliness and a welcoming place for residents, businesses, and visitors to enjoy. You will be on the front-line of a key service in the newly formed North Yorkshire Council and therefore one of the faces for the new council.

You will also provide support for specific activities such as flood events to effectively distribute sandbags or to search illegally dumped waste to support fly tipping prosecutions. You will also be trained to work behind a refuse truck, to ensure we can meet operational needs. you will be collecting residual waste, garden waste, food waste or recyclable materials from domestic properties. You will have to be able to move bags, wheelie bins and recycling bins, and using a lifting mechanism to tip the waste into the lorry.

Shifts are 5 days per week which may include 1 weekend day to be worked between 06:00 and 10pm.

What you will bring

All you need is effective interpersonal and communication skills, a commitment to delivering a high-quality standard, and the ability to work with others within the team. A clean driving licence is desirable.
