Job objectives and responsibilities

The role involves implementing planned and reactive maintenance for prison fabrics, overseeing the onsite team, and ensuring high standards and contractual compliance through quality audits and strong client relationships.

You will lead and develop staff and prisoners, manage absences, and ensure proper staffing levels. Adherence to health and safety policies, including documentation like risk assessments, is crucial.

Key responsibilities include overseeing Planned Preventive Maintenance and Helpdesk tasks, maintaining SHE standards, and liaising with engineers and subcontractors. A proactive approach to client liaison is essential.

You will develop site engineering knowledge, enforce business risk management procedures, and ensure accurate documentation. Investigating infrastructure issues, supporting staff development and are also part of the role.

Coordinating connections to existing systems, reviewing maintenance tasks, and maintaining O&M Manuals are necessary. Availability for weekend work and managing capital projects, including minor works, is required.

Supervising staff to deliver effective FM services and ensuring compliance with safety, health, hygiene, and fire regulations is mandatory.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate should possess basic to intermediate IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. They should have completed an apprenticeship or hold an equivalent qualification, and possess IOSH or an equivalent certification.

Qualifications should include C&G/BTEC Mechanical and Electrical Building Services Engineering Parts 1, 2, and 3, as well as an NVQ Level 3 in multi-skilled engineering. The candidate should also have C&G 2079 F Gas or an equivalent certification, HVAC or gas equivalent qualifications, and C&G 2391/2 18th edition IEE regulations.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, including note-taking, are essential. The candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, and demonstrate flexibility within contracted hours. A strong team player with a ‘can do’ attitude, they should be intuitive, proactive, and possess high moral standards with absolute integrity.

Substantial practical experience and a comprehensive knowledge of all building services disciplines, including heating, hot water, ventilation, refrigeration, environmental systems, electrical power and distribution, and public health, are required.
