The Strategic Programmes and Change Team at Imperial exists to ensure successful delivery of strategic programmes which deliver significant business value to enable Imperial’s Strategy as a world changing global powerhouse. The team is organised across three capability areas of Portfolio, Service Design and Change and operate a matrix model of working providing resource as determined by the strategic priorities agreed upon by the Operations and Infrastructure Committee. Team members will be expected to work as a blended multi-disciplinary team alongside with colleagues in faculties and professional services.

As a Project Manager, you will be joining our Strategic Programmes and Change Team at an exciting time as it is expands to lead project, programme and portfolio management across a range of strategic programmes at Imperial which aim to transform our campuses, services and technology in support of our academic endeavour.

We have two roles available and are looking for experienced Project Managers who are excited by delivering transformation on an organisational scale, with expertise in delivering digital transformation, people/organisational transformation or infrastructure transformation projects or workstreams within multi-million-pound programmes.

 

What you would be doing
As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for managing strategic change projects which are delivering organisation wide change as part of a transformation portfolio.

Your responsibilities will include all aspects of project management from inception to completion, such as project planning, risk and dependency management, project governance and reporting, stakeholder engagement, project set up and closure, stage gate assurance, business case definition and benefits realisation. You will also represent the Programme Director or Programme Manager in the day-to-day duties required by the project, recommending any changes required to maximise the delivery of outcomes.

As a Project Manager for strategic programmes, you will work closely with the Strategic Change team to ensure delivery remains aligned to organisational objectives and has the right conditions to succeed in delivering benefits and outcomes which contribute to Imperial’s strategy.

As a member of the Strategic Portfolio Team, you can expect to work on a range of strategic projects and programmes across the University, and as a project delivery professional, you will also play an active role in developing the project delivery capability of our team and wider University.

Our strategic programmes portfolio includes several ambitious organisation wide change programmes, including the delivery of a new ERP system, development of a new campus, transformation of our existing campus at South Kensington and digital transformation of services for staff and students. Together, these programmes enable the delivery of Imperial’s strategy and academic endeavour and play a key role in realising our mission of science for humanity.

To play a key role in delivering this transformation, we are looking for a qualified and experienced project managers skilled in adapting a range of project management approaches and comfortable operating in agile, waterfall and hybrid environments. You will have successfully managed projects within large-scale programmes of significant investment or strategic value and will also be experienced in operating in challenging environments to deliver organisation wide transformation successfully through your combination of technical expertise and stakeholder management skills.

 

What we are looking for

Recognised project management and/or programme management qualification (e.g. Agile, APM, MSP, PRINCE2)
Experience in delivering strategic projects in either digital, people or infrastructure transformation
Experience in leading the planning and management of complex projects or programmes under varied methodologies (agile, waterfall, hybrid, product led)
Experience in supporting the delivery of quality, benefits, outcomes and value for money in a range of strategic projects or programmes
Experience of managing a project to meet organisational project delivery frameworks and processes, including governance, benefits and risk management, and assurance and readiness assessments
Experience of negotiating and working with a broad range of stakeholders on large programmes
Experience delivering change in a complex organisation, ideally in HE sector or similar environment
Knowledge of a range of project management delivery methodologies and how to successfully apply them in different settings
Knowledge of project and programme processes throughout delivery from inception to post implementation and evaluation
Confident user of computer software packages at intermediate level, including Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with additional experience using project management tools (MS Project, Asana, Jira or similar)
Strong organisational skills with ability to work at pace whilst maintaining quality, and prioritising time effectively
Excellent communication skills with the ability to deal tactfully but effectively in “political environments” using influence and interpersonal skills where direct authority may not exist
A team player who can balance need, risk and pragmatism when developing solutions.
