About the role
The post will be located at Imperial College (primarily the South Kensington Campus, but also at the White City Campus). The role of the appointee will be to work on the development and implementation of the engineering biology SynbiCITE Proof of Concept Programme, with a value of over £2 million. This will include working with SynbiCITE, and senior staff of companies involved in the programme, identifying potential recipients and supporting the programme awards process, with each award worth between £5,000, £50,000 and £250,000. The post is intended to accelerate the commercialisation of world-class science and emerging technologies in the area of engineering biology, through the development of appropriate UK networks. Consequently, an important component of the role will be to work with SynbiCITE senior staff and companies in the PoC programme to accelerate and enhance their development. In this context, the Senior Industrial Liaison Officer will also be responsible for enhancing and developing SynbiCITE’s Industrial Club.

 

What you would be doing
Manage the development and implementation of the PoC programme, working for and with the Directors of SynbiCITE.
Accelerate and enhance the growth of start-ups and SMEs PoC Programme, through the identification of potential investment opportunities and provide high level support for the award of Programme awards
Work in collaboration with UK academic centres for engineering biology on industrial translation in relation to spin outs from the centres joining the PoC programme.
Take ownership of enhancing and expanding SynbiCITE’s Industrial Club, by actively engaging with industry partners and developing strategic initiatives to increase collaboration with key stakeholders.
Participate in the organisation and execution of other SynbiCITE activities (for example, SynbiCITE business courses).
What we are looking for
Expert knowledge of the engineering biology sector, both in the UK and internationally.
Experience in creating company development and growth in the engineering biology industry, particularly at the start-up and SME levels.
Knowledge of emerging technologies in engineering biology and related technologies.
Knowledge of technology business development and commercialisation.
Some knowledge of regulation and innovation policy development. candidates understand whether they are a good fit for the role and encourage applications from those who meet the criteria.
