This is an exciting opportunity to join North Yorkshire’s friendly and dynamic Public Health team who have well-established relationships with other council departments, the local NHS and the voluntary sector. The planned programme of work for the role includes:

 

Work on the tobacco control agenda, including supporting the local stop smoking service, Living Well Smokefree, as well as the delivery of the additional grant funding for local stop smoking services.
Leading on the NHS Health Check programme, with confidence to liaise directly with providers of this service, in addition to supporting the wider cardiovascular disease agenda.
Facilitating effective linkages between the Public Health agenda and the wider Primary Care system, monitoring activity and subsequent payments on PharmOutcomes across a number of topic areas.
Providing oversight and assurance on the delivery of Health Inequality schemes funded via the Integrate Care Board. This aspect may include the preparation of presentations, quarterly reports, and the future allocation of funding.

Our work is diverse, with a range of functions that include the promotion of healthy environments, commissioning of a range of services (e.g., sexual health and drug and alcohol), and partnership working to improve health outcomes within North Yorkshire. The post holder is expected to work autonomously on a number of strategically important programmes and will demonstrate a depth and breadth of knowledge across health improvement and prevention including operational commissioning, performance management, project management and the development of key public health programmes/service.

 

Skills & Experience

 

To be successful you will have:

A commitment to working collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders and a passion for promoting good health and wellbeing.
Experience of monitoring and evaluation.
Experience of working with a Local Authority, Public Health, or multi-agency partnership setting.
Influencing and negotiation skills used effectively and persuasively in support of organisational aims and objectives.
Effective interpersonal skills, including establishing and maintaining good working relationships with internal and external partners.
The ability to present complex and sensitive information to both specialists and non-specialist audiences and individuals.

This role offers an opportunity to work at a strategic level across a number of topic areas to influence and improve outcomes for residents of North Yorkshire, including addressing health inclusion and health inequalities. It is an exciting time within Tobacco Control due to unprecedented levels of national public commitment to reduce national smoking prevalence to 5% by 2030.
